Kanye First Announces the Jesus Is King Experience - Detroit

On Sept. 27, 2019, instead of releasing his highly anticipated album, West entertained an intimate crowd of 1000 guests in attendance for the ‘Jesus Is King Experience’ and listening party in Detroit at the Fox Theater. The “Jesus Walks” rapper played his 9th studio- 10-track- album, along with a documentary movie, following his work with his Sunday Service concerts. The new album is reportedly strictly gospel music with zero profanity, further supporting the future direction of Kanye’s music and lifestyle. Wife, Kim Kardashian announced Kanye would release the new Jesus Is King album the Sunday following his Chicago and New York scheduled performances.

Sunday Service in Jamaica, Queens -New York

On Sunday, September 28th, Kanye took his infamous Sunday Service to the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral in Queens, New York. The performance remained a secret until Kim Kardashian West entered the church through a side door. More VIPs and celebrity guests slipped into the Service such as; Alexander Wang, Swizz Beatz and Akon. With standing-room only and a packed house, Jason White, director of Sunday Service, began service by calling on a choir of a hundred singers to join him at the pulpit with their backs to the church congregation. The spectacle caused many regular church members to walk out mid-performance.

Kanye joined the choir by playing the keyboard to pre-recorded tracks while singing along and rapping lyrics from a few of his secular songs. After The Sunday Service, they revealed that West would hold a listening party later that evening at an undisclosed location.

Despite West’s self-proclaimed faith, fans and critics have publicly debated whether Kanye’s spiritual revival is legitimate or just another platform he created in the name of profit.

At a recent Sunday Service, he reportedly had multiple pieces of merchandise for sale, including sweatshirts that went for $140 dollars a piece. While the true motivation behind these services may be debatable, Kanye continues to surprise fans around the world as they patiently await his new music.
